HCS HB 1399 -- ATHLETIC TRAINERS

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Professional Registration and Licensing by a vote of 14 to 0.

This substitute provides for the licensing of athletic trainers.
Currently, athletic trainers are registered with the State Board
of Registration for the Healing Arts.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and
FY 2007.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that athletic trainers are the only
group under the purview of the State Board of Registration for
the Healing Arts which are not licensed.  The bill changes their
status from registered to licensed and brings consistency to the
statutes.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Lager; and Missouri
Athletic Trainers Association.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
