HCS HB 1422 -- SEDATION DENTISTRY SPONSOR: Behnen (Stefanick) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Professional Registration and Licensing by a vote of 16 to 0. This substitute requires that all dentists who prescribe and administer deep sedation or general anesthesia agents in the course of providing dental services to possess a conscious sedation permit issued by the Missouri Dental Board. The board is authorized to promulgate rules specifying the criteria by which these sedation permits may be issued. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill is a safety issue. The dental industry wants to make sure that dentists who are using sedation and anesthesia in their practice are properly trained and regulated by the Missouri Dental Board. Testifying for the bill were Representative Stefanick; Missouri Dental Association; Missouri Association of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists; and Missouri Dental Board. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Bob Dominique, Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
