HB 1444 -- LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEES SPONSOR: Moore COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Corrections and State Institutions by a vote of 11 to 0. Under current law, legislative committees are required to seek authority to visit any state institution by the passage of a resolution. This bill removes that requirement. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that this statute became effective in the 1930s and is obsolete. Currently, there are statutes which require legislative committees to periodically visit state facilities, and this law contradicts those statutes. Testifying for the bill was Representative Moore. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Bob Dominique, Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
