HCS HB 1524 -- TRANSIENT GUEST TAX

SPONSOR:  Johnson, 47 (Ransdall)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Local Government by a vote of 17 to 0.

This substitute allows the City of St. Roberts to impose, upon
voter approval, a room tax of not more than 5% per night.  This
tax will be in addition to any other tax authorized by law and
will be used for the purpose of funding the construction,
maintenance, and operation of a convention and multipurpose
center.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and
FY 2007.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that a multipurpose convention center
will stimulate the economic development of the area.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Ransdall.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
