Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HB 1660 -- ACCIDENT REPORTS

SPONSOR: Crawford (Lager)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Transportation and Motor Vehicles by a vote of 18 to 0.

This substitute repeals the provision that prohibits law
enforcement officers from releasing accident reports to anyone
who is not an interested party until 60 days after the accident.

The substitute also clarifies that the required procedure for the
processing of accident reports by law enforcement officers
includes computer-generated reports, in addition to written
reports.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and
FY 2007.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that in the computer age most
accident reports are computer-generated, and the reports should
not be restricted.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Lager; State Highway
Patrol; and Missouri Press Association.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
