Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HB 798 -- COURT SURCHARGES

SPONSOR:  Byrd (Shoemaker, 8)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Judiciary by a vote of 17 to 0.

This substitute provides that moneys from the law library fund
may be used by Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Linn, Macon, Perry, and
Shelby counties for courtroom renovation and technology
enhancement.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and
FY 2007.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill simply allows the
counties to use surplus funds to modernize their courtrooms.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Shoemaker (8).

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
