Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HB 843, 880 & 1042 -- ENTERPRISE ZONES

SPONSOR:  Johnson, 47 (Angst)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local
Government by a vote of 16 to 0.

This substitute requires the Department of Economic Development
to designate enterprise zones in the City of Sugar Creek and in
Laclede, Shelby, Warren, and Webster counties; to designate a
single enterprise zone located partially in the City of Nixa and
partially in the City of Ozark; and to extend the expiration date
for the enterprise zones in Linn and Macon counties.

FISCAL NOTE:  Estimated Cost on General Revenue Fund of $72,244
in FY 2005, $1,495,782 to Unknown in FY 2006, and $1,735,058 to
Unknown in FY 2007.  No impact on Other State Funds in FY 2005,
FY 2006, and FY 2007.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that an enterprise zone gives a
community's economic development team another tool to attract
business back to a community.

Testifying for HB 843 were Representative Angst; Robert B.
Kreuter; and Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce.  Testifying for HB
880 were Representatives Salva and Pratt.  Testifying for HB 1042
was Representative Cunningham (145).

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
