HB 876 -- ARREST RECORDS SPONSOR: Salva COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Judiciary by a vote of 15 to 1. Under current law, any person involved in an incident for which a police report was filed may obtain a copy of the police incident report, if needed for a civil action. This bill allows the parent or child of the person to obtain the information when the person is deceased or has been judged incompetent. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2005, FY 2006, and FY 2007. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill allows family members of crime victims to access more information regarding the crime in order to achieve some closure.
