HB 1244 -- St. Louis Metropolitan Airport Authority Sponsor: Dempsey This bill requires the Missouri-St. Louis Metropolitan Airport Authority to be responsible for the operation of the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport beginning January 1, 2007. Ownership of the airport does not change and neither does its financial accountability. The bill also changes the manner in which members of the authority are appointed. Current law requires the Governor to appoint four members; St. Louis City to appoint three members; St. Louis County to appoint three members; and the counties of Jefferson, Franklin, and St. Charles to appoint one member each, for a total of 13 members. The bill requires St. Louis City to recommend 10 candidates for appointment, St. Louis County to recommend five candidates, St. Charles County to recommend two candidates, and Jefferson County to recommend one candidate. All recommendations are given to the Governor, who is required to make appointments to the authority based on these recommendations. Current law prohibits anyone who is actively engaged or employed in commercial aeronautics from being appointed to the authority. The bill removes this prohibition.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
