HB 1540 -- Offender Health Care

This bill requires offenders in the custody of the Department of
Corrections to pay a $3 fee to the department when receiving
nonemergency medical, dental, or optometric services.  The fee
will be deducted from the offender's institutional account.
Offenders found intentionally causing injury to themselves and in
need of emergency medical treatment will be responsible for the
entire cost of the medical care.

The bill further provides for situations in which offenders will
not be charged for medical services and the department will not
deny any offender emergency services due to their inability to
pay the required fees.
