AN ACT

To amend chapter 565, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to assault of corrections personnel, with a penalty provision.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

            Section A. Chapter 565, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 565.077, to read as follows:

            565.077. 1. A person commits the crime of assault of corrections personnel if he or she attempts to kill or attempts to cause serious physical injury to any person that is an employee of, or assigned to work in, any jail, prison, Missouri sexual offender treatment center, or other correctional facility, while such person is engaged in the performance of a duty imposed by statute or administrative rule.

            2. Assault of corrections personnel is a class A felony.
