         Whereas, the Flag of the United States and the National Anthem are symbols of American heritage and unity; and

 

            Whereas, American history documents the ultimate sacrifices of many individuals and families in support of the American national vision; and

 

            Whereas, it is customary to remember our nation and the sacrifices made at many public events; and

 

            Whereas, proper etiquette conveys respect and honor to those symbolized by the American Flag and the National Anthem; and

 

            Whereas, citizens of Missouri can renew their respect for these national symbols through periodic reviews and demonstrations of proper flag etiquette:

 

            Now, therefore, be it resolved that the members of the House of Representatives of the Ninety-second General Assembly, Second Regular Session, the Senate concurring therein, hereby urge the officials and staff of Missouri public, elementary, secondary, and institutions of higher education to annually and seasonally as appropriate review, for those students participating in school programs, the proper etiquette and respect at times of recognition of the American Flag or the National Anthem; and

 

            Be it further resolved that the Chief Clerk of the Missouri House of Representatives be instructed to prepare properly inscribed copies of this resolution for the Missouri Commissioner of Education and the Missouri Commissioner of Higher Education.
