HB 114 -- KANSAS CITY TRANSPORTATION SALES TAX SPONSOR: Johnson (47) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local Government by a vote of 15 to 0. This bill removes the expiration date of December 31, 2005, from the Kansas City transportation sales tax, allowing the sales tax to remain in effect indefinitely. FISCAL NOTE: Estimated Income on General Revenue Fund of $151,500 in FY 2006, $306,030 in FY 2007, and $309,090 in FY 2008. No impact on Other State Funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and FY 2008. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the renewal of this tax is absolutely necessary to the Kansas City area public transportation system and having the biennial renewal hinders Kansas City's ability to borrow money due to the uncertain revenue stream. Testifying for the bill were Representative Johnson (47); Kansas City Area Transit Authority; City of Kansas City; Department of Transportation; and Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Julie Jinkens McNitt, Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
