HB 258 -- SCHOOL DISTRICT CENSUS REQUIREMENTS SPONSOR: Cunningham (86) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Elementary and Secondary Education by a vote of 13 to 0. This bill removes the requirement that school districts take an annual census of children up to age 21 with disabilities, removes obsolete provisions concerning funding for the census, and removes references to the repealed sections. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and FY 2008. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that special education students are now accounted for by other means, and the bill should eliminate duplicative administrative and clerical work for school districts. The $1 per child funding will continue to go to the district by way of exceptional pupil aid. Testifying for the bill were Representative Cunningham (86); Missouri School Boards Association; Missouri School Administrators Coalition; and Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee. Becky DeNeve, Senior Legislative AnalystCopyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
