Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 618 -- STATE HIGHWAY PATROL PERSONNEL

SPONSOR: Bearden

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Transportation by a vote of 12 to 0.

Currently, the State Highway Patrol can have no more than 25
captains, 60 lieutenants, and a total of 965 officers and
patrolmen. This bill exempts from those caps the members
assigned to the Division of Drug and Crime Control.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on General Revenue Fund in FY 2006, FY
2007, and FY 2008. Estimated Effect on Other State Funds of an
Income of $0 to a Cost of Unknown in FY 2006, FY 2007, and FY
2008. Could exceed $100,000 annually. Subject to appropriation.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say the bill will exclude the members of
the Division of Drug and Crime Control for purposes of the cap on
patrol members and help the patrol better manage and place
patrolmen.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Bearden; State
Highway Patrol; and Missouri State Troopers Association.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
