HB 681 -- OFFICE OF ADVOCACY FOR THE ELDERLY

SPONSOR:  Chappelle-Nadal

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Senior Citizen Advocacy by a vote of 11 to 0.

This bill renames the Office of Advocacy and Assistance for the
Elderly to the Office of Advocacy and Assistance for Senior
Citizens.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and
FY 2008.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the labeling of someone as
elderly is negative because you think of someone who is old,
frail, and useless to their family, community, and state.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Chappelle-Nadal;
Barbara Wolken; and Silver-Haired Legislature.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
