Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HCS HB 691 -- NON-GAMING AMUSEMENT DEVICES

SPONSOR: Cooper (120)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Rules by a
vote of 8 to 0.

This substitute revises the definition of "gambling device" by
excluding amusement devices that award only an immediate right of
replay or a coupon credit that can be redeemed on the premises
for something of value, not to exceed $5 per play, except for
cash, intoxicating beer or liquor, or tobacco products. Slot
machines at truck stops are specifically excluded.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and
FY 2008.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that revising the definition of
"gambling device" will allow existing family-oriented businesses
to continue operating within the law.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Cooper (120); and
Rick Young.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
