HB 789 -- SALES TAX EXEMPTION FOR CHARITABLE AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS SPONSOR: Salva COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Local Government by a vote of 15 to 0. This bill expands the current state and local sales and use tax exemption for sales made to or by civic and charitable organizations to allow an exemption for sales outside their civic and charitable activities and functions. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and FY 2008. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the recent interpretation and enforcement of this provision of law made it difficult for charitable and civic groups to continue to do good works. Testifying for the bill were Representatives Salva and Richard. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
