HB 880 -- MBE/WBE OVERSIGHT REVIEW COMMITTEE SPONSOR: Hughes COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on Urban Issues by a vote of 11 to 0. This bill establishes the MBE/WBE Oversight Review Committee within the Office of Administration to increase and maintain participation of certified socially and economically disadvantaged small business concerns or minority business enterprises in supplies, services, and construction contracts with the state. A study of the availability of socially and economically disadvantaged small business concerns and minority business enterprises in the marketplace must be completed by December 31, 2007. The Office of Administration will staff the committee and aid in the performance of the committee's duties. The provisions of the bill will expire six years from the effective date. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and FY 2008. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will help analyze the accomplishments of minority and women business enterprises, identify the enterprises, and alert the MBE/WBE Oversight Review Committee of their needs.
