HB 166 -- Water Contamination

Sponsor:  Meadows

This bill increases the punishment for persons convicted of
willfully or negligently causing or permitting any discharge of
water contaminants in violation of Missouri's clean water laws.
Currently, violators can be fined not less than $2,500 nor more
than $25,000 per day of violation and/or by imprisonment for not
more than one year.  Second and successive convictions can have a
fine of not more than $50,000 per day of violation and/or
imprisonment of not more than two years.  The bill increases the
fine to not less than $5,000 nor more than $50,000 per day of
violation and/or by imprisonment of not less than three years.
Second and successive convictions can have a fine of not more
than $100,000 per day of violation and/or imprisonment of not
less than four years.
