Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 270 -- Jury Service

Sponsor: Pratt

Currently, persons who ask to be excused from jury service based
on a physical or financial hardship are required to provide the
judge with documentation of the hardship. This bill changes the
documentation requirement by specifying that the person must
provide documentation as required by the judge.

Currently, to postpone jury service, the prospective juror, along
with the board of jury commissioners, must fix a date certain on
which he or she will appear for jury service. The bill specifies
that the court must set the month in which the prospective juror
will appear for service.
