Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 543 -- Disclosure of Health Care Benefits

Sponsor: Zweifel

This bill requires applicants for public health program benefits
and anyone requesting uncompensated care in a hospital to
identify the employer of the person receiving the health care.
If the person receiving health care services is not employed, the
applicant must identify the employer of any adult who provides
support to the person receiving the services.

The Department of Health and Senior Services is required to
report to the General Assembly by January 1 of each year a list
of employers who employ 25 or more public health program
beneficiaries. The report must include the names of any
subsidiaries that employ public health program beneficiaries, the
location of the business or subsidiary, the total number of
employees and dependents who are enrolled in each state-funded
health care program, and the total cost to the state of providing
public health care benefits for the employees and their
dependents. The department must also make this list available on
its Internet web site and to any person requesting a copy.
