Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 922 -- Drivers' Licenses

Sponsor: Quinn

This bill requires any applicant for a driver's license or a
temporary permit who is between the ages of 15 and 18 and attends
a public school to present documentation showing they have
achieved acceptable Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) scores in
the academic year preceding the application to be eligible for a
driver's license or temporary permit. Continuation of licensure
is contingent upon maintaining acceptable MAP scores in both
communication arts and math until high school graduation.
Documentation of the scores must be submitted by the student to
the Director of the Department of Revenue at the close of each
academic year. If a student has an acceptable score in one
subject, but not in both, his or her driver's license will be
continued for one year but may be revoked if the results of the
next academic year's MAP test do not show improvement.

The bill also contains language on transferring students,
emancipated minors, and submitting false information.

The bill will become effective January 1, 2008.
