HCS HB 1099 -- HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS SPONSOR: Cooper, 155 (Schaaf) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Health Care Policy by a vote of 7 to 0. This substitute changes the laws regarding ventilator-associated pneumonia, an infection that can originate or occur in a hospital or a hospital-like setting. Currently, the Infection Control Advisory Panel and the Department of Health and Senior Services report quarterly on the incidence rates for all types of infections. Upon the recommendation of the panel, health care providers may use a better method of measuring the risk of transmission of ventilator-associated pneumonia from one patient to another. The substitute contains an emergency clause. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and FY 2009. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that a better method of measuring the risk of the transmission of ventilator-associated pneumonia is needed. Testifying for the bill were Representative Schaaf; and Missouri Hospital Association. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
