HCS HB 1232 -- TRANSPORTATION OF DEAD BODIES SPONSOR: Schaaf (Smith, 118) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on Healthcare Facilities by a vote of 6 to 0. This substitute requires a hospital, nursing home, or other health care facility to notify in writing the coroner, funeral home personnel, or any person responsible for transporting the dead when an individual dies of a disease that is contagious, infectious, or communicable. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and FY 2009. PROPONENTS: Supporters say the bill will provide safety and a peace of mind to coroners, funeral home personnel, and anyone involved with transporting the body of an individual who has died of a contagious disease.
