HCS HB 1333 -- DRAINAGE DISTRICTS

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Agriculture Policy by a vote of 22 to 0.

This substitute authorizes drainage district boards to impose an
annual processing fee for assessed tracts when the board
determines that the costs of preparing and processing the
district's maintenance tax statement exceed the amount of tax
imposed.  The fee will be set by the board at the district's
annual maintenance tax hearing.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that authorization by statute is
needed for a levee district to legally set the maintenance fee
amount at the annual maintenance tax hearing.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Black.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
