Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 1477 -- GENETICS AND METABOLIC DISEASE PROGRAMS

SPONSOR:  Schaaf

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Health Care Policy by a vote of 8 to 0.

This bill allows the Department of Health and Senior Services to
disclose test results and personal information as it relates to
genetics and metabolic disease programs to a health care provider
providing treatment without the individual's consent.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will allow any treating
physician or health care provider immediate access to electronic
medical information.  The department has developed a secure data
system that allows only registered and department-approved health
care providers easy and immediate access to health information.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Schaaf; Department of
Health and Senior Services; Missouri Genetics Advisory Committee;
and Missouri Newborn Screening Committee.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
