HCS HB 977 -- ELECTION OF MUNICIPAL OFFICERS

SPONSOR:  May (Whorton)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Elections by a vote of 10 to 0.

This substitute authorizes the board of aldermen in any city of
the fourth class with 1,000 or fewer inhabitants to dissolve the
ward districts and elect either four or five aldermen at large.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and
FY 2009.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that city officials favor this
change.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Whorton.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
