Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HJR 44 -- PERSONAL PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION

SPONSOR:  Whorton

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Veterans
by a vote of 10 to 0.

This proposed constitutional amendment exempts, upon voter
approval, one motor vehicle from personal property tax if owned
for the entire tax year by any active-duty, military personnel
who is absent from Missouri more than 270 days.  The vehicle
cannot be driven during that time.

FISCAL NOTE:  Estimated Cost on General Revenue Fund of $52,560
in FY 2007, $0 in FY 2008, and $0 in FY 2009.  No impact on Other
State Funds in FY 2007, FY 2008, and FY 2009.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill will provide a small
monetary compensation for those who are serving our country.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Whorton.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
