Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1228 -- Missouri Women's Council

Sponsor:  Ruestman

Currently, the Missouri Women's Council is required to prepare a
state plan and gather annual reports from numerous state
departments. This bill eliminates these requirements as well as
provisions which authorize a special license plate bearing the
council's emblem and the phrase "breast cancer awareness."

The bill also modifies the council's mission by adding
requirements:

(1) To initiate programs to support women making the transition
from work to home, operating a home-based business, and working
part-time from home;

(2) To conduct an inventory of existing federal, state,
community, and private programs and facilities relating to the
economic and employment needs of women and make this information
available to Missouri women; and

(3) To determine which economic and employment problems exist in
specific geographic areas of the state by developing a
self-sufficiency standard.
