Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1543 -- Hazardous Duty Compensation Act

Sponsor: Salva

This bill establishes the Hazardous Duty Compensation Act in
which public employees receive 1.5 times their regular rate of
pay when required to perform job duties that pose an extreme
danger beyond the normal performance of the workforce.

Maximum speed areas and areas designated by the Department of
Transportation will be considered hazardous duty areas. Any
state employee injured in these areas will receive compensation
in addition to workers' compensation benefits while the employee
recovers.

State departments and agencies are required to have a
comprehensive study completed every five years to ensure that
state salaries are consistent with similar private sector job
salaries.
