HB 1609 -- Redistribution of Profits Arising from a Crime Sponsor: Pratt This bill requires any profits resulting from the commission of a crime and owed to the person who committed the crime to be deposited into a separate account in the Crime Victims Compensation Fund. The Division of Workers' Compensation within the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations will be required to immediately notify any person eligible to receive compensation under Section 595.020, RSMo. After notification, the victim has six months to file a claim with the division for disbursement from the fund. The victim is allowed to file a civil action within six months of receiving notification regardless of whether any applicable civil statute of limitations has expired. If no claim has been made within two years of the victim's notification, the moneys will be transferred into the Crime Victims Compensation Fund.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
