HB 1877 -- Sexual Offense Victim's Rights Sponsor: Storch This bill specifies that victims of sexual offenses must be informed by the law enforcement officer or prosecuting or circuit attorney that he or she has a right to request a no contact order to be issued against the alleged perpetrator of the sexual offense. The order will specify that the defendant must not have contact or communication with the victim until the criminal case is concluded. Any defendant who violates the order will be guilty of a class C felony. In any criminal case in which a sexual offense is alleged, no documents containing the victim's identifying contact information will be released to the defendant or his or her counsel unless that information is redacted. Violation of this provision will be a class C felony. The defendant will be allowed to contact the alleged victim for trial preparation through the prosecuting or circuit attorney's office.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
