Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1879 -- School Zones

This bill allows Greene County to establish a school zone
designation for streets surrounding a school and erect signs on
or around the school zone which are clearly visible from the
highway and clearly indicate the boundaries of the school zone
and the hours of enforcement.  These signs will state the
following:  "Warning:  $250 fine for traffic violations in this
school zone."

Any person found guilty of a moving violation within the
designated school zone on the first conviction will be assessed a
fine of $35 in addition to any other fine authorized by law and
$100 for a second or subsequent conviction.  Persons guilty of
any speeding violation will be subject to a $250 fine for a first
conviction and a $350 fine for any subsequent conviction.

The bill contains an emergency clause.
