Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 1984 -- Employment of Illegal Aliens

Sponsor: Davis

Currently, a person who negligently hires an illegal alien is
ineligible to participate in any state-administered or subsidized
tax credit, tax abatement, or loan program for five years and is
guilty of a class A misdemeanor. This bill requires any person
convicted of this violation to also repay double the value of any
tax credit, tax abatement, or loan within 60 days of the
conviction. One-half of the repayment will be for the
administering agency and the other half for driver education
programs in the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Failure to repay may result in the affected agency requesting the
Attorney General to file an injunction against the business until
the amount is repaid.
