Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 2056 -- Kansas City School Board Elections

Sponsor: Yates

This bill preserves the subdistrict structure of the Kansas City
School District but requires, beginning with the 2007 school
election, that six members who reside in the subdistrict from
which they seek election be elected by a vote of the entire
district rather than their subdistrict. Three additional
at-large members may reside anywhere in the district and will
also be elected district-wide. A vacancy for which no candidate
files will be filled by the school board appointment of a
resident of the subdistrict affected.
