AN ACT
To amend chapter 620, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to the governor's advisory council on agricultural science and technology.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:
Section A. Chapter 620, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 620.1500, to read as follows:
620.1500. 1. There is hereby created within the department of economic development the "Governor's Advisory Counsel on Agricultural Science and Technology". The council shall consist of five members. The members of the council shall be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the governor. The governor shall appoint one of the members as chairperson. At the council's discretion, it may call upon experts for advice and consultation on the issues in question.
2. The council's duties shall include but not be limited to the following:
(1) Apprising the governor of new developments in the scientific and technological communities;
(2) Providing scientific inquiry into regulatory matter, upon the governor's request;
(3) Identifying strengths, weaknesses, and long-term needs of the state regarding science and technology; and
(4) Predicting potential economic opportunities for the state in the plant biotechnology industry.
3. The members of the council shall serve without compensation except that members shall be reimbursed for reasonable travel and meeting expenses related to the functions of the council.
