HB 125 -- TAX COLLECTION SPONSOR: Franz COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on Government Affairs by a vote of 7 to 0. This bill allows first classification counties without a charter form of government and second classification counties to collect property taxes using electronic records and disbursements. The bill requires taxing authorities to request notification of current taxes paid under protest by February 1 and requires the county collector to provide the information by March 1. Delinquent personal property taxes are subject to the same interest and penalties as delinquent real property taxes. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will save counties money by giving local governments more efficient tools for collecting taxes. The bill also clarifies some language and removes some that has become obsolete. Testifying for the bill were Representative Franz; and Missouri County Collectors Association.
