HB 166 -- WRITE-IN CANDIDATES

SPONSOR: Hoskins

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Elections
by a vote of 9 to 0.

This bill requires anyone filing a declaration of intent to be a
write-in candidate for election to a municipal office to meet
certain deadlines and other requirements for filing as specified
in Section 115.349, RSMo.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and
FY 2010.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will require write-in
candidates to make their intention for running known so that they
can be screened and be under the same scrutiny as the party
candidates.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Hoskins.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
