HB 205 -- TOURISM SUPPLEMENTAL REVENUE FUND SPONSOR: Marsh COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on Tourism by a vote of 11 to 0. Currently, the Division of Tourism Supplemental Revenue Fund will expire on June 30, 2010. This bill extends the expiration date to June 30, 2015. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the Division of Tourism is funded exclusively by the revenue in the Tourism Supplemental Revenue Fund; and if it expires, there will be no funding for tourism in Missouri. Tourism is very important to Missouri's economy. There's a direct correlation between tourism dollars and state revenue. When tourism dollars go up, state revenue increases. When tourism dollars go down, state revenue decreases. For every $1 invested in tourism, the state receives at least $2.80 in revenue. Testifying for the bill were Representative Marsh; Division of Tourism, Department of Economic Development; Missouri Travel Council; Missouri Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus; Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Missouri Hotel and Lodging Association. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
