HB 233 -- PRACTICE OF CHIROPRACTIC SPONSOR: Tilley COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on Professional Registration and Licensing by a vote of 9 to 1. This bill changes the definition of "practice of chiropractic" to the examination, diagnosis, and treatment by methods commonly taught in any chiropractic college or chiropractic program in a university which has been accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, its successor entity, or a program approved by the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Currently, the "practice of chiropractic" is defined as those methods commonly taught in any chiropractic college recognized and approved by the state board. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the Chiropractic Practice Act is outdated, and the bill changes the practice act to what is being taught in the chiropractic colleges. Testifying for the bill were Representative Tilley; and Dr. Glenn Bub, Missouri State Chiropractors Association. OPPONENTS: Those who oppose the bill say that the legislature should not take away the oversight from the state board and give it to an independent entity. Testifying against the bill was Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
