Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 41 -- SPECIAL ADVISORS TO POLICE DEPARTMENTS

SPONSOR:  Portwood

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Urban Issues by a vote of 6 to 0.

This bill repeals an obsolete provision which allows the police
department of the City of St. Louis to hire, as special advisors,
former police officers who retired prior to October 1, 1957.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and
FY 2010.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say this language is obsolete.

Testifying for the bill was Representative Portwood.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
