HCS HB 698 -- RIVERVIEW GARDENS SCHOOL DISTRICT

SPONSOR:  Hoskins (Walton)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special
Committee on Urban Education Reform by a vote of 8 to 0.

This substitute requires the Department of Elementary and
Secondary Education to recalculate the state school aid for the
Riverview Gardens School District to correct an error.

The substitute contains an emergency clause.

FISCAL NOTE:  Estimated Cost on General Revenue Fund of
$2,509,384 in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010.  No impact on Other
State Funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say the bill corrects a financial
clerical error made by the district so as not to penalize future
state funding.

Testifying for the bill were Representatives Walton and Walsh;
Cedric Williams, Superintendent, Riverview Gardens School
District; and Cooperating School Districts of Greater St. Louis.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
