Summary of the Committee Version of the Bill

HB 77 -- STANDARDIZED INSURANCE APPLICATIONS

SPONSOR: Schaaf

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Insurance
Policy by a vote of 11 to 0.

This bill requires the Director of the Department of Insurance,
Financial Institutions, and Professional Registration to
establish by rule uniform insurance application forms to be used
by all insurers.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on General Revenue Fund in FY 2008,
FY 2009, and FY 2010. Estimated Income on Other State Funds of
$5,000 in FY 2008, $0 in FY 2009, and $0 in FY 2010.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that by having one uniform
application form, it will promote competition, lower insurance
costs, and make the system more efficient. A company wanting to
purchase health insurance for its employees will be able to
complete one application and send it to multiple insurance
companies to get many quotes.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Schaaf; and Coventry
Health Care.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
