HCS HB 796 -- DISABLED LICENSE PLATES AND PLACARDS SPONSOR: Nance (Dethrow) COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Special Committee on Senior Citizen Advocacy by a vote of 7 to 0. This substitute exempts any permanently disabled person 65 years of age or older from the physician's statement requirement when renewing disabled license plates or windshield placards. FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010. PROPONENTS: Supporters say that it is costly for the elderly to keep going to their physician to get a physician statement in order to renew their disabled windshield placards and license plates. By requiring only one initial statement for individuals who are permanently disabled, they will not incur the expense of a physician visit just to receive the same consideration as the time before for the required statement. Testifying for the bill were Representative Dethrow; and Department of Revenue. OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
