HB 1131 -- Instructional Materials Sponsor: Jones (89) Currently, public schools are required to procure educational materials from vendors who make them available in Braille or electronic, machine-readable format when those formats do not cost more than print media. This bill requires vendors, as of January 1, 2009, to make electronic files available to schools purchasing core academic materials and to allow the schools to reproduce them in specialized formats such as Braille, large print, or digital audio for students who have certain disabilities. Noncompliant vendors are liable for three times the cost of obtaining the material in the required format. A claim may be made by an individual purchaser, the school that employs the purchaser, the departments of Higher Education and Elementary and Secondary Education, or the Attorney General.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
