HB 481 -- Commissioner's Advisory Council on Teacher Quality Sponsor: Sutherland Currently, the Missouri Advisory Council of Certification for Educators is composed of 25 members who make recommendations on various aspects of teacher certification. This bill renames the council as the Commissioner's Advisory Council on Teacher Quality and adds two additional members. The 15 members who must be active public school classroom teachers may include counselors, librarians, and vocational teachers. The remaining membership must be one school board member, one State Board of Education member, four administrators from different grade levels and a central administrative office, four members representing public and private higher education institutions with teacher education programs, and two members appointed by the Commissioner of Education. In addition to its current duties, the council will make recommendations on standards for measuring professional development and induction programs including a review of programs and moneys appropriated through the funding formula for the commissioner's use on critical areas of need.Copyright (c) Missouri House of Representatives
