Summary of the Introduced Bill

HB 858 -- Citizens' Right to Know Act of 2007

Sponsor: Cunningham (86)

This bill establishes the Citizens' Right to Know Act of 2007
which requires the local pretrial release agency in each county
to prepare a register of any defendants who are recommended for
release by the agency. The register must be updated weekly and
is required to display the charge against the defendant, the
nature of any prior relevant criminal convictions, a list of any
court appearances required or any appearances that have been
missed, any bench warrants issued, and any instances of
noncompliance. The pretrial release agency is required to submit
an annual report to the Office of State Courts Administrator
including, but not limited to, the complete operating budget of
the agency, the number of personnel employed by the agency, the
total number of cases in which nonsecured release was denied to
defendants, and the average period of time the defendant is
incarcerated before being released on recommendation by the
agency.
