AN ACT

To amend chapter 171, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to school attendance in inclement weather, with an emergency clause.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Chapter 171, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 171.036, to read as follows:

171.036. For the 2006-2007 school year, all school districts shall be required to make up the first four days that are missed during the year due to inclement weather. In addition, all districts that miss more than four days shall be required to make up one-half of the next twelve days that are missed. For interpretation purposes, districts will be required to make up the even numbered days that are missed above four days. No district shall be required to make up more than ten days total, and all makeup days exceeding four shall be full days of school if the district chooses to make up only one-half of the days missed.

Section B. Because immediate action is necessary to clarify potential school scheduling and funding problems, section A of this act is deemed necessary for the immediate preservation of the public health, welfare, peace, and safety, and is hereby declared to be an emergency act within the meaning of the constitution, and section A of this act shall be in full force and effect upon its passage and approval.
