Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Chapter 171, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 171.058, to read as follows:

171.058. 1. Beginning July 1, 2008, no food containing artificial trans fat may be served by or used in the preparation of any food sold within a public school food facility.

            2. Beginning with the next contract negotiated between any public school district and a food vending machine operator after January 1, 2008, no food containing artificial trans fat may be provided in a vending machine placed by the food vending machine operator within a public school facility.

            3. For purposes of this section, a food contains artificial trans fat if the food's ingredients include vegetable shortening, margarine, or any kind of partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, unless the food manufacturer's documentation or label required on the food under federal law lists the trans fat content as less than 0.5 grams per serving.
